Krazywolf.com

On Tuesday, the #1 post on /r/TwoXChromosomes was a Medium op-ed on the topic of contraceptives, titled: "Data Shows Contraception Lowers Abortion Rates and Saves Billions, but Why Do Republicans Continually Fight to Deny Women the Right to Birth Control."

It was submitted by /u/Miked378, and it received 19,026 upvotes.

Overall, it's an average piece of writing.  It cites a couple key statistics and it hammers home the thesis.

However, at the end of the Medium op-ed was an outbound link to an article from another site called Krazywolf.com, which bills itself as a "viral content source."  The article on Krazy Wolf has nothing to do with contraceptives.  It's about the rapper Logic performing at the VMAs.  (Note: The link was later removed from the op-ed, but it's still visible in this cache.)

My question is:  Why did an op-ed about contraceptives include a link to some random viral website?

The op-ed was written by a woman named "Claire Anderson."  Her Medium profile does not contain any biographical info, nor does it have links to other social media accounts. This was her first piece ever published on Medium.

This wasn't the first time Miked378 posted the Medium link on /r/TwoXChromosomes.  He previously posted the link on September 6, and it received 1,525 upvotes.  Miked378 later deleted his thread, but it can still be viewed in this archive.

Miked378 has since been banned from Reddit: www.reddit.com/user/miked378.

Here are some other KrazyWolf.com links posted recently on Reddit:

September 6:  A link in /r/NotTheOnion about Monopoly: 78 upvotes, later deleted.
September 7:  A link in /r/NotTheOnion about Monopoly: 2,847 upvotes, later deleted.
September 8:  A link in /r/NotTheOnion about Monopoly: 103 upvotes, submitted by /u/flembdog.
September 8:  A link in /r/NotTheOnion about Monopoly: 114 upvotes, later deleted.
September 8:  A link in /r/Science about Monopoly: 35 upvotes, submitted by /u/flembdog.

Nobody who commented on the posts in /r/TwoXChromosomes mentioned the Krazy Wolf link. To be clear, I don't have an issue with the content of the op-ed itself, nor with the content on Krazy Wolf.  I just don't understand how people can consume news and not wonder about the source of their information.

Does whyme1239 have an alt?

I noted a while back there was a Redditor named /u/whyme1239 who was posting links to a pair of YouTube channels.  The channels were  called "Sports Valley" and "Recorder."

Well, there's another Redditor named /u/dkfjdr who also posted a pair of links to the "Recorder" channel.  Both videos were posted in the /r/ContagiousLaughter subreddit--one titled "Best man's pants fall down during ceremony" and one titled "BackFlip."

Furthemore, /u/dkfjdr posted a link to a YouTube channel called Leura Butt in the /r/space subreddit.  That video was titled "Could you imagine ever being more confused than a frog in zero gravity?"  The video made it to the top of /r/space and now has 215,000 views.

whyme1239 returns

I figured whyme1239 would eventually try to monetize his YouTube channels.

He has at least two channels:  Sports Valley and Recorder.

And although I don't see any ads on Sports Valley, I do see ads on Recorder.  The videos uploaded onto these channels have been circulating around the internet for years, and I think it's safe to assume whyme1239 didn't create them.  They're just short, silly clips such as...

Awesome Rabbit rally car  (A rabbit goes chasing after a car.)

Extra Crispy (A bird lands on a space shuttle.)

and

Chinese Hurdler just doesn't give a fuck (An athlete runs through hurdles.)

Six suspended reddit accounts

Gitssa was the first account to be suspended.  And earlier today I noticed the other five were suspended:

1.) HollaDouble2: https://www.reddit.com/user/holladouble2
2.) TurkeryBurgerFries: https://www.reddit.com/user/turkeyburgerfries
3.) KnifeandForrk: https://www.reddit.com/user/knifeandforrk
4.) KeysToTheThreedom: https://www.reddit.com/user/keystothethreedom
5.) GangstaGirlSarah: https://www.reddit.com/user/gangstagirlsarah
6.) Gitssa: https://www.reddit.com/user/gitssa

I don't know if these six account were all controlled by the same person.  There seemed to be variations in their writing styles.  But for one reason or another I lumped them together in my mind.

The curious case of whyme1239

There was a video posted in the /r/Television subreddit on Saturday by user whyme1239.  It was an old, viral clip of a woman solving a Wheel Of Fortune puzzle with only one letter:

https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/6m0r30/woman_solves_wheel_of_fortune_puzzle_with_one/

Here's an archive link for the actual video.  The YouTube channel is "Leura Butt."  She has 2 subscribers and joined on June 30, 2017.

So far, the Wheel of Fortune video has 15,000+ views.  In theory, that means the YouTube channel can be monetized.  There was only one other video on the channel, and that had about 7,500 views.  I'll be curious to see if other videos get posted in the next week and whether they're monetized.

But let's go back to whyme1239.  I don't think the person is genuine.

On May 27, 2017, whyme1239 answered the question, "What is the most ignorant thing someone has said to you?"  He wrote: "Girl I used to work with was absolutely convinced that Jews are descended from pigs."

However, back on August 20, 2016, Reddit user CrazyOtto87 wrote the exact same comment in response to the question: "What's the most ignorant thing you've ever heard someone say?"

What does that mean when someone is copying-and-pasting old comments?

The curious case of Top-Floor

I noticed a Reddit user named Top-Floor had been submitting a whole bunch of links to that Screenhits.info domain.  And it turns out that a lot of Top-Floor's comments were copied-and-pasted from other Reddit threads.  Top-Floor's account is now suspended, but I wanted to document these anyway.

Here is a comment he made in /r/AskReddit in response to the question, "How did you meet your now-best friend?":
I met mine during a class concert. We weren't allowed to leave the practise zone until after the concert finished. I walked up to her and said "I really don't want to be here." She later said the reason we became friends is because I was the only person not to mention her British accent and ask her to say "Harry Potter"
But that exact same response was written back on June 3, 2016 by user Scatteredheroes, in response to the question "How did you meet your best friend?"

Another time, Top-Floor answered the question "How have you gotten out of a ticket?" by saying:
Fought it in court: Judge: The ticket says you were going 81 miles per hour in a 70. Me: That's what the ticket says, your honor. Judge: It also says you drive a Geo Metro? Me: Correct, your honor. Judge: There's no way you were doing 81 in that car. Case dismissed.
Yet that exact same response was written back on August 6, 2015, by user mopeygoff, in response to the question: "Reddit, how have you gotten out of getting a speeding ticket?"

Very strange.

VirginiaNews.co

How strange.  There's a new website, VirginiaNews.co, which is straight-up mimicking the homepage of a TEGNA news site, WUSA9.com. Here's an archive of the VirginiaNews.co homepage: http://archive.is/MsE0f.  All the links lead to WUSA9.com.  I guess the person responsible just wanted an authentic-looking homepage.
